【摘要】

The main epicenter of the powerful 12 May 2008 earthquake (8.0 magnitude) was in Wenchuan, Sichuan. The overlap between earthquake-affected areas and panda habitat is significant. The Chinese government, with assistance from Chi- nese citizens, businesses, and international communi- ties, is working on a recovery plan that we expect to be completed by publication time. We suggest the following actions be taken: 1. Integrate habitat restoration into the overall recovery plan to maintain good habitat connectivity and ecosys- tem condition. 2. Future infrastructure development must take earth- quakes into consideration. 3. Land-use patterns and human habitation are likely to be altered after a quake; thus, plans need careful eval- uation with ecological capacity in mind
